1.THE ONE KILOMETRE WORLD
An exhibition by S. Amin Shahab
at the Glass Atrium of the National Museum Singapore ,93 Stamford Road, Singapore
from the 8th to the 11th May 2008
The National Art Gallery has been for 50 years since its inception, both an institution and art centre to promote Malaysian art, and shall continue to present artists of Malaysia who are driven by their strive to excel .
On the occasion of TITIAN BUDAYA, the public will be introduced to Johore born, Nanyang Fine Arts trained artist, and lyricist, S. Amin Shahab, who is an artist very unique in his mission. Since three years ago S Amin Shahab has dedicated himself to visit faraway lands from Egypt to China to record visually using only pen and ink on canvas, the multicultural landscape of the world , in a project entitled The World In One Kilometre . This project according to him is:
“a soul-searching endeavor – to see the world (from evolution of life to the civilizations of mankind – a subject of enthralling interest to me) through my surrealists’ eyes and mind , as an evidence of facts and knowledge revealed ’’
The accumulated knowledge , in this instance, canvasses of collected visual documentaries of S. Amin Sahab not only stands as witness to the diligence and skill of this amazing artist but also is a gift to mankind , near and far , which The National Art Gallery hopes to be continuously shared and enjoyed .
